SME’s Unite! APEC SME Summit 2015

Leaders of different sectors from all over the world flew to Manila for the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC on November 17-19. With the theme “Building inclusive economies, building a better world,” APEC 2015 aims to prioritize economic policy thrusts of the member economies in the Asia Pacific region, including human capital development, small and medium enterprises (SME’s) in regional and global markets, sustainable and resilient communities, and enhancement of regional economic integration.

The first day of APEC 2015 opened the doors for SME’s to participate in this international forum with the APEC SME Summit. Hundreds of SME’s, political and economic leaders, media and other organizations filled the Green Sun Hotel in Makati to witness a whole day of exhibits and conferences. The theme of the event is “Innovation and Big Ideas: Pushing Boundaries.”

Selected delegates were given access to “The Eye,” the main hall where the conference happened. The conference featured speakers from various industries to share their knowledge and expertise on innovation in relation to building and managing a business. His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the event with his presence to deliver the keynote address.

The speaker lineup included top-rated CEO’s like Tony Fernandes of Air Asia, Wendy Kopp of Teach for All, Sheila Marcelo of Care.com, Bill Barhydt of Abra, Jonathan Swanson of Thumbtack, and our very own Maria Ressa of Rappler. Representatives from multi-national companies also joined the lineup like Karen Reddington of FedEx Asia Pacific, Barbara Navarro of Google, and Scott Anthony of Innosight. Newscaster and TV host Karen Davila was the moderator of the afternoon’s panel discussions. There was also a Zumba break in between to energize the crowd.

The exhibit on the ground floor included organizations that support SME’s like Open Online Academy, Tuldok Animation, Kickstart Ventures Inc., Impact Hub Manila, and Ideaspace Foundation.

The APEC SME Summit 2015 was organized by APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (Go Negosyo), and Asia Society Philippines.
