VOTY Radio Broadcasting Academy Invades Bulacan State University

On September 9, 2016, the VOTY Radio Broadcasting Academy was held at the Bulacan State University in Malolos, Bulacan. Over 70 Junior Mass Communication students participated in the half-day workshop to learn basic radio broadcasting skills.

VOTY Founder Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales led the team of trainers for the workshop. He started the event with an inspirational talk about the youth being the future of radio broadcasting. He encouraged the students to maximize their youth by using their skills and talents to pursue their passion, even if they’re still in school. He then shared his story on how he pursued his greatness when he was young – as a voice artist and voice director, as a youth advocate, an entrepreneur and a motivational speaker. He then talked about Dr. Jose Rizal and challenged the students to see him as the epitome of greatness and excellence as Filipinos.

The VoiceMaster drove the point home on how the voice is the most powerful human instrument. He talked about his journey as a voice artist and amazed the audience with his repertoire of character voices, and a one-man radio drama performance. Towards the end of his talk, the VoiceMaster shared his favorite Pochology, “The best ability is availability,” and challenged the participants to make themselves available to opportunities to express their voice.

The VoiceMaster’s inspirational talk was followed by the workshop proper, with 3 mini-workshops conducted by VOTY members. VOTY Head Secretariat Ada Cuaresma did a workshop on conducting radio interviews, with activities that teach participants skills on listening, probing and building rapport with the interviewee. Ada’s talk was followed by a discussion on broadcasting ethics by VOTY Online Managing Director Alvin Lorena. The last mini-workshop was conducted by VOTY RBA Head DJ Denn, who is also the main anchor of VOTY’s Radyo Kabataan in DZXL. DJ Denn discussed how to create youth-oriented radio programs, where he also walked through the important elements of a radio show.

The Radio Broadcasting Academy conducted with awarding of certificates and photo opp with the speakers.
