On April 20, Masbate Province Vice Governor, Atty. Kaye Revil, organized the Youth Entrepreneurial Summit in partnership with the ASEAN Young Leaders Association Philippines (AYLA-PH). Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales was one of the speakers in this event, which aimed to inspire and ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of young Masbatenos.
Around 100 students, mostly high school students, attended the event to learn more about entrepreneurship. After some opening remarks from Vice Governor Revil, a series of inspirational talks followed. The first speaker was Sinon Loresca, know for being the “King of Catwalk,” and pride of Masbate. Sinon shared the story of how he overcame struggles and challenges that have come from a poor family. He inspired the participants to dream and to believe in themselves, the way he did in order to get to where he is today. A representative from the Department of Science and Technology came up next with a presentation about entrepreneurship and business.
Pocholo came onstage as the third speaker, who spoke about passion-driven business. He told the audience a little bit about voice acting and the industry and even amazed the audience with his talent by doing an ensemble of voice impressions. Pocholo also talked about his struggles starting out as a young entrepreneur, and how he overcame those challenges to take his business towards success.
Pocholo then shared 3 important lessons he learned as an entrepreneur, to build what he calls a “passion-driven business”. Pocholo inspired the students to think about building a business that serves others, and not just themselves. He challenged the students to go beyond the purpose of making money, for the purpose of giving value to society with their business ideas. Most importantly, he emphasized the importance of being passionate about one’s business, because passion is the fuel that will compel you to work on your business through good and bad times.
Pocholo’s empowering talk was followed by an inspirational speech from two beauty queens – Ms. International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago, and Ms. Supranational 2013 Mutya Johanna Datul – who shared inspirational messages about inner beauty and overcoming adversity. The last speaker for the summit was Neil Soria, founder of AYLA Philippines, who spoke about youth empowerment.
