Sound Technology Institute of the Philippines – more commonly known as Soundtechphil – held its first General Assembly on August 16-18, 2018 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The 3-day event featured an expo for sound engineers and sound design enthusiasts, as well as a free seminar on various topics about sound technology.
Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales was one of the speakers during the free seminar, who spoke about the art of voice acting. Pocholo shared how his love for radio drama as a young boy in the province ignited his passion and talent for voice acting. He shared how he became one of the youngest radio drama talents of DZMM, and how he immersed himself in the world of voice-overs and dubbing.
Pocholo also talked about his voiceover services company, Creativoices Productions, which became the home of the first and only voice acting school in the country, the Philippine Center for Voice Acting. Pocholo recalled the challenges he encountered as a newbie in the industry at a very young age, and how the veterans during that time made the business closed-door and monopolized. Establishing his voice acting school became Pocholo’s way to open the industry to the thousands of dreamers who aspired to hear their voice on radio and TV.
Pocholo’s journey to being known as the “Man Behind a Thousand Voices” became his perfect transition to introduce the art of voice acting to the sound enthusiasts present in the event. He showed samples of past projects of his company – from cartoons to video games – and even amazed the audience with his live sample of character voices. Pocholo gave the audience an appreciation for the human voice that brings to life most of the media content available today.
