The Power of Voice in the Age of ICT: The VoiceMaker Principles at SCITE Pampanga 2008
In a sea of gadgets, geek talk, and glowing screens, one message pierced through the digital buzz at the SCITE (Student Conference on IT Education) Pampanga 2008: "Your voice is your power, your gift, your identity."
As the VoiceMaster of the Philippines, I was invited not just to speak—but to spark a movement. At a time when the IT world was booming with hardware and code, I brought something radically human to the table: the VoiceMaker Principles.
Believe in the Power of Your Voice
Every voice is unique. But many students don’t realize that their voice—literal and metaphorical—can change lives. Whether you're coding a program or crafting a podcast, your voice is your brand. Your story. Your legacy.
Use Your Voice to Serve
Voice is not for ego. Voice is for advocacy. During the conference, I reminded everyone: “Hindi sapat na magaling ka. Dapat may layunin ka.” (It's not enough to be talented—you must have purpose.) I shared how I built VOTY (Voice of the Youth Network) to empower young people to speak up for change.
Find Your Voice by Losing Your Fear
Many students I met were brilliant but shy. I told them: “Ang kinatatakutan mo, dun ka dapat lumaban.” (What you fear most is where you must fight.) You don’t need perfect English. You need authentic conviction. The VoiceMaker Principle says: Your message matters more than your accent.
Let Your Voice Inspire, Not Just Inform
Tech is a tool. But inspiration is fuel. I challenged the crowd: “Don't just create apps—create movements.” Whether in animation, AI, or audio, use your craft to uplift others. Be a creator of meaning, not just media.
Speak with Gratitude and Grit
Many in the audience came from far provinces—some traveled six hours to attend. I honored their effort with a truth bomb: “Yung sipag mo ngayon, 'yan ang puhunan mo sa kinabukasan.” VoiceMaker Principle #5 reminds us to always speak with gratitude—for your roots, your mentors, and your grind.
Tech Meets Talent: Why Voice Still Wins
Amid the Java certifications, programming contests, and animation talks, my message resonated loud and clear: “Voice is not outdated—it’s your ultimate edge.” In the age of AI and automation, your authentic voice, your creative input, and your ability to connect emotionally are what make you irreplaceable.
At SCITE, I wasn’t just there as a speaker. I was there as a wake-up call.
Final Words for the IT Youth
To every student who heard me that day in Pampanga—and to every reader now—I say:
“Ang boses mo ay regalo ng Diyos. Gamitin mo ito para magpabago ng mundo.”
(Your voice is God’s gift. Use it to change the world.)
This is the heart of being a VoiceMaker: not just mastering technology, but using your voice with clarity, courage, and compassion.
So whether you’re coding, creating, or just starting—speak up, step up, and show up. The world is waiting for your voice.
