The VoiceMaster Unites: A Special Appearance on Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko

How Pocholo Gonzales is Building a Better World for Voice Artists and Dubbers

In a world filled with content and noise, few voices rise above—not just in tone, but in purpose. One of those voices belongs to Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales, who recently graced the special episode of Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko with stories not only of success, but of service, transformation, and the deeper soul of Filipino voice acting.

🧒 From a Radio-Loving Kid in Bataan to the Voice of a Generation

Pocholo shared a story both nostalgic and inspiring. Growing up in Mariveles, Bataan, he had no access to television. His source of wonder? Radio dramas, especially the hauntingly iconic Gabi ng Lagim. He recalled imitating voices and sound effects as a child—unaware that he was already cultivating what would become a lifelong passion and profession.

That early fascination led him to DZMM’s Radyo Radyo voice competition, where, out of over 10,000 participants, he emerged as champion. That moment marked the beginning of a storied career.

“Even as a student at UP Diliman, I was already working. And I loved it—I was doing what I wanted to do.”

🎧 Elevating Voice Acting as an Art—and a Legacy

From telenovelas to anime, commercials, and animated series like Cyborg Kuro-chan and Bubu Chacha, Pocholo’s voice has become part of the Filipino media soundscape. But he never sought celebrity status. Instead, he focused on something greater: honoring the art of voice acting and giving others a chance to thrive in it.

He credits mentors like Sir Danny Mandia, Tito Joey Galvez, and Tita May Valle for opening doors. But he took the initiative further—by creating more doors for others.

📚 The Teacher, the Author, the Advocate

In 2005, he founded VoiceWorks, the first-ever voice acting school in the Philippines. That move democratized voice acting, traditionally an exclusive space for those inside studios. He later authored the award-winning book, Gusto Kong Maging Voice Talent, which won Best Book on Professions at the 2017 National Book Awards.

In 2019, he made history again—writing a full chapter titled “Ready, Set, Go, Local” in James Alburger’s The Art of Voice Acting, the global "Bible" of the industry.

🖥️ Adapting in the Digital Age: Voice from Home & CVAP

When the pandemic halted physical studios, Pocholo didn’t pause—he pivoted. He launched Voice From Home, offering free online training, and founded the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP), which has since trained and certified thousands of voice artists from across the Philippines and beyond.

“Even if you're in the province, even if you're on an island—if you have a mic, a laptop, and internet, you can work with global clients.”

He continues to teach students how to build their personal brands, use platforms like Voices.com, Fiverr, Voice123, and be competitive in the international voiceover market.

🤝 A Culture of Sharing Over Selfishness

Perhaps the most powerful moment in his appearance was this message:

“The only way to truly grow this industry is to destroy the culture of selfishness, greed, and ungratefulness—and replace it with a culture of giving, sharing, and lifting others up.”

For Pocholo, voice acting is not just about skill. It's about character. It's about creating a community where dubbers and voice talents collaborate, teach, and empower the next generation.

🎯 A Better World for Voice Artists

From traditional dubbing booths to modern home studios, from radio waves to global platforms, Pocholo Gonzales has helped reshape what it means to be a voice artist in the Philippines.

His mission is clear:

  • To train voices not just to perform, but to inspire
  • To preserve the history of voice acting in the Philippines
  • And to build a future where anyone—no matter their background—can be heard

“We must pass on the artistry. We must pass on the industry. Because if we don’t share it, it dies with us.”

Through his appearance on Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko, Pocholo reminded the nation that voice acting is more than a profession—it’s a platform for purpose.
