The VoiceMaster Speaks About VOICE Leadership at the JCI National Convention

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines National Convention – more popularly known as “NatCon” – is recognized as one of the largest annual conferences of professionals and entrepreneurs in the country.

This 3-day affair is attended by over 2,000 JCI members from all over the country each year, with some international delegates from neighboring JCI chapters. Sports tournaments, debate and public speaking competitions, Miss JCI Philippines pageant, and the Temiong Awards are the staple events of the annual convention.

The 70th NatCon was held on October 4-6, 2018 at the City of Majestic Waterfalls – Iligan City. Dubbed as “Kasadya sa Iligan,” JCI Philippines delegates from all over the country got to experience the city’s festivities, delicacies, and tourist destinations.

NatCon also featured back-to-back seminars on October 6, with 12 seminar topics ranging from leadership to communication. One of the training topics this year was about “VOICE Leadership,” which was facilitated by JCI Makati 2018 President, Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales.

In his VOICE Leadership training, Pocholo shared his experience and expertise as a Filipino motivational speaker. Over 20 participants attended the mini-workshop and learned how to harness their voice to become effective leaders in their respective fields.

Pocholo began his presentation with an introduction of his professional career in the voice industry – as a voice artist, as a radio broadcaster and as a Filipino motivational speaker. He amazed the audience with his repertoire of character voices, and also showed the video clips where he dubbed some old Filipino movies, imitating the voices of famous Filipino actors.
Pocholo’s showcase of his voice acting prowess was the springboard to the focal point of his presentation, the voice. He talked about the importance of vocal image, and how the way we sound largely affects people’s perception of us. He gave the participants time to reflect on their own vocal image, and to decide how they WANT to sound like moving forward.

Pocholo shared the 3 keys to develop one’s voice to sound like a leader – breathing, volume and tone. He gave the audience a few exercises to explore these 3 keys in their voices. He also gave the audience tips on how they can take care of their voices. Towards the end of the presentation, the participants were also given the opportunity to speak in front of the class to share what they learned and how they will use their learning in their daily life.

Kasadya sa Iligan: 70th JCI Philippines National Convention was hosted by JCI Iligan, together with JCI Iligan Dayang-Dayang, JCI Kulintang, JCI Iligan Maria Cristina, and JCI Panguil Bay.
