The Council of Deans and Educators of Business in Region IV-A (CODEB4A) organized the 11th Business Student Summit, which was held on September 22 at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena, Quezon. The theme of the summit, “Building Leaders Through Virtual Enterprise and Mobility.” Over 4,000 students and teachers from various business schools in the CALABARZON Region attended the summit to learn from the invited speakers, including Filipino motivational speaker, Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales.
Pocholo spoke about the Entrepreneurial Mindset. He began his presentation with the story of his own entrepreneurial journey in the voice acting industry, from the time he won the voice acting contest in DZMM when he was 16 years old, up to the time he built his own voiceover recording company, Creativoices Productions. He talked about the hardships and challenges he encountered as a new voice artist, especially the monopoly surrounding the industry.
Pocholo shared that his frustrations became his fuel to build his own recording studio, as well as the first and only voice acting school in the country – the Philippine Center for Voice Acting. Pocholo also amazed the audience with an ensemble of character voices – from commercials to cartoon characters to even famous personalities.
The story was Pocholo’s transition to the topic of an entrepreneurial mindset, as he discussed the qualities that make a successful entrepreneur. Above the list of qualities is having passion for what you do. According to Pocholo, it was his passion not only for the art of voice acting but also for providing opportunities to aspiring voice artists, that pushed him to make his business thrive. He also talked about having goals, vision, and ability to plan as ingredients that make a successful entrepreneur.
Pocholo also talked about “8 to be Great” or the 8 qualities that make a successful person, not only in business but also in life. Pocholo challenged the students to discover their purpose, live with passion, share their skills and talents, and to maximize their youth and be an inspiration to other young people. He also encouraged them to live the principles and ideals of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, whom he considers as the epitome of Filipino greatness and excellence.
Pocholo ended his presentation with his favorite “Pochology,” Pocholo’s own words of wisdom. He said “Availability is your best ability,” and encouraged the students to make themselves available to take the opportunities to become excellent and great.
