Rekindling His Passion And Craft For Teaching Due To An Untimely Happening

He remembered that he started teaching in VoiceWorx as the turn of events encouraged him to step up to the challenge. “Wala akong regret kasi ginalingan kong all out...Kung meron man sigurong isa, siguro yun kay Sir Danny. Then, di ko siya nasipot so nagtampo siya sa akin. Hindi ako nagpakita kasi sobrang nahihiya ako at that time kasi nasa Fairview kami. Once kasi na na-invite ka ng director, whatever you’re doing, drop it, pumunta ka. Talagang pumunta ka kasi the opportunities come once in a lifetime. As a penance for what I did wrong, I spent my time here in CreatiVoices honing the next generation of artist that will be graduating here. Kasi the untimely sickness of Sir Danny came, I was the one who taught them regarding dubbing."

He added, "Passion ko rin kasi pagtuturo, frustrated teacher ako. Anything that I have and I know, I share them. May karisma kung baga sa way how I speak which is I dont see kasi I am just speaking out my mind. Sinusubukan niya akong i-engage, which is yun Pag-asa, Makati, the first ever talk that I have together with the Dean."

The VoiceMaster Encourages To Do More His Yesterday's Best And How JV Helps In Honing Future Voice Artists

From struggling to find direction in his career and a hungry neophyte in the industry, JV saw more of what he can do through the platform of teaching. Itong whole experience, the hunger is still there. It’s not coming from desperation anymore, it comes from the need. Last time I checked, I still have needs. Kasi pag sinabi nating desperation, it comes from survival so parang you’re just in it to survive. Ang nangyari pag sa survival, ang iniisip mo parang you’re on the edge palagi, which is ayaw ni Sir Choy yun. He wants me to level up, to be more."

Overcoming the challenges in teaching, JV started to create his own methods to fit appropriately the student's needs and level of experience. He explained, "Hindi ko pa naisip na kaya kong magturo noong una kasi how would I teach something like voice...voice is something that is subjective. You cannot objectify what is subjective na parang ang hirap bigyan ng standard o lagyan ng anatomy na ito ginagawa, gawin mo ito, ganito mangyayari. So what I did is I teach based on experience, subjective then hinaluan ko ng konting science. Ang pagboboses kasi hindi yan talent, it is a skill, it’s transferable. Kung paano ko tinuruan ang isang taong ‘to, iba ‘to, naka-tailor fit siya for him or for her.

Remembering a quote from the VoiceMaster, he realized what he wants to do more, "Sabi ni Sir (Pocholo Gonzales), ‘We are all angels with one wings. We need to hug each other for us to fly.’ Those are his teachings and I am just trying to embody it kasi iba rin yun words if you’re trying to enact something. Basically what I’ve done so far lalo na sa teaching...gusto kong mag-share pa ng knowledge. Kung maalala man ako ng estudyante ko o hindi, it’s okay kasi they don’t owe me anything. I just share what I have."

Looking Back On The Rewarding Journey In Just Less Than Two Years

A former call center agent that successfully got back to his passion of voice acting and now making it his profession, how does he see his journey looking back in the fulfilling first two years of his blossoming career?

"A lot has happened doon sa one year eh, ang bilis ng career. Well, because of Sir Pocholo, dumami yun opportunities. Pero despite that, meron yung tinatawag nating fatigue...Career fatigue or na burn-out ka basically. Kasi ako na burn-out din ako sa dati kong work sa call center. Dito naman, hindi siya burn out eh. I’m like a candle still burning pero slowly fading away, the flame is slowly fading away. Tapos, na-reignite lang yan noong I was teaching. I can still do the things I love by teaching kasi experiences ko na ‘to eh. Kung baga, syempre I made mistakes along the way and I dont want them to make the same mistakes I had before. Gusto ko lang talaga magpahinga (from career fatigue) kasi syempre mahal ko ‘to. Saka kasi ang peaceful ng buhay ng teacher for me na I interact with the students...walang pressure, unlike pag nasa industry ka na talaga. Ako, I still consider myself as a newbie in the industry. I only have 1.5 years of experience. Next year, 2 years na ako. Tapos parang for me, yung isang taon na yun ang dami nang nangyari...paano pa kaya yun susunod na taon? Ano pa kaya yung matutunan ko?", he realized.

"Tapos iba ko pang natutunan...don’t mix work with personal feelings kasi it gets in the way. It creates a lot of drama na di naman kailangan. Hindi ako takot kasi I can prove my worth na kaya kong gumaling kasi I know I can learn. Same concept din yun eh about love. That’s why you love other people because God loves you so much...na punong-puno na yun cup mo, isshare mo na lang. Basically ganun yung nangyari.", he added as he thinks how his journey as a voice artist developed both his skills and character.

JV Villasan teaching VoiceWorx Batch 50 about dubbing

A real fighter like JV Villasan carefully strategize his decisions and actions. As he stated, "Choose your fights properly, strategic plans. I’m reading before kasi Lao Tzu and Sun Tzu, The Art of War. Applicable siya, I’m also practicing martial arts kasi the concept is there. So sabi ko, ‘Guys, retreat muna tayo. Palamig muna tayo. Learn when to pause, not stop ha...pause when necessary. Learn to fight and when you fight, fight hard. That’s what you need to do, fight hard. Fight like your life depends on it. Observe first, feel your situation, and prepare to fight."

When asked if he sees himself growing old in the industry of voice acting, he confidently shares, "Tingin ko hindi ako mauumay o magsasawa dito sa journey ko kasi it’s more of an evolution. Your voice will evolve with you. I see myself in the industry na oh parang luma na yan.

Message For Every Dreamer Aiming To Become Voice Artists

The advent of technology makes it more accessible to aspiring voice artists to look for more opportunities. What is his message for these dreamers especially nowadays that it's possible to go after what they want? "Start. Don’t stop. If you ever felt your flame is fading away, talk to someone that will help you reignite your flame---your passion and your flame for something that you want to do. Try to do it all over again. Kasi ganito eh, lahat naman ng successful na tao, nag-start sila na they failed a lot of times. That’s basically the story of my life, I am a failure. That’s why I’m here because I’m a failure...failure in life, failure in my decision-making. That’s why when I always pray, I always ask...kokopyahin ko sinabi ni Kuya Pas (Mr. Dannes Serrano) not to be Biblical or what. But every time that I pray not to be spiritual or what, when I pray, I always ask the Lord to give me intelligence, wisdom, and correct judgment. Yun ang kailangan ko kasi marami na akong pagkakamali sa buhay ko na parang gusto ko na give up ‘to, gusto ko na umalis pero is it the right thing to do? No one can answer that question eh except yourself. Once you ask that question...oo tama nga ‘to, parang there’s a conflicting idea to the other thing. At the end of the day, you still go back to what you love. Do it and it stays with you. Anything negative, stop na."

It was not an easy journey and it will not be easier as JV Villasan continues to hone his craft in voice acting and passion for teaching. But all his collective experiences steered him towards becoming a stronger fighter realizing his life purpose which he'll bring to the next stage of his dreams.
