Global Perspectives: How The VoiceMaster Redefined Filipino Voice Acting on the World Stage
At the prestigious World Voice Over Organization (WoVO) International Panel Talk, the global voiceover industry witnessed the remarkable story of a Filipino who dared to lead, democratize, and inspire an entire creative movement.
Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, widely known as The VoiceMaster of the Philippines, did not just represent his country—he showcased a new standard for what it means to be a voice talent, a teacher, and a visionary.
"You don't have to market yourself when your reputation speaks louder than your pitch."
During the panel, The VoiceMaster shared his journey of establishing the first and only voice acting school in the Philippines—the Philippine Center for Voice Acting—since 2005. Through his flagship program, VoiceWorx, and later Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP), Gonzales trained and produced over 10,000 voice artists, revolutionizing an industry once monopolized by studios and gatekeepers.
He emphasized how branding, authenticity, and purposeful work made him not just a talent for hire, but a respected name recognized even in international platforms.
From Local Talent to Global Voice
Gonzales described how Filipino voice artists, once limited to local studios, now dominate global platforms. Despite English being his second language, he captured markets across the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
“Filipinos are everywhere. Wherever you go, there is a market for Filipino voices.”
Through strategic online presence on platforms like Voices.com, Voice123, and VoiceBunny, The VoiceMaster secured clients from over 50 countries, while consciously avoiding low-cost, high-competition marketplaces like Fiverr to maintain the dignity of Filipino rates.
Sharing the Mic, Not Hoarding the Stage
Unlike traditional voiceover veterans who hoarded opportunities, The VoiceMaster chose to multiply himself.
“I created my own competitors to make myself obsolete.”
Through CVAP and Certified Voice Artist Philippines (CVAP), he democratized voiceover opportunities by teaching others how to build their brand, develop their skills, and create a culture of sharing, giving, loving, and caring in the Philippine creative industry.
By empowering others, Gonzales grew the market instead of shrinking it—and ensured that the next generation would not just survive, but thrive.
A New Era for Filipino Voice Artists
Gonzales shared how the pandemic became a catalyst for change in the Philippines. Agencies and studios became less relevant as talents with home studios forged direct relationships with clients. Now, Filipino voice artists are enjoying better rates, faster payments, and global recognition.
“Leadership is not about monopolizing success. It's about multiplying greatness.”
His advocacy resonated deeply with WoVO, a community that shares the same principles of raising professional standards and building a culture of collaboration, not competition.
