The VoiceMaster’s Lifelong Dream: Empowering Voices, Inspiring Generations
From a small town with no television to becoming the man behind a thousand voices, Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales has proven that greatness doesn’t come from privilege—it comes from purpose, passion, and perseverance.
This is not just the story of a voice artist. This is the story of a visionary who turned rejection into revolution, and silence into sound that empowers.
📻 Where It All Began: A Dream in the Dark
Growing up without a TV, Pocholo found his first love in an unlikely companion—radio. Listening to late-night dramas like Gabi ng Lagim, he would imitate characters like Utoy and Lolo Tasyo, unknowingly sharpening a skill that would one day change his life and others'.
“Noong tinanong kami kung anong gusto naming maging, iba sagot nila: doktor, abogado. Ako? Gusto ko pong maging voice talent.”
Little did he know, that bold answer—once laughed at—would become his lifelong purpose.
🏆 The Birth of the VoiceMaster
At 16, Pocholo entered a voice acting competition. While others came with one voice, he brought ten—voicing entire conversations with characters he created on the spot. Out of thousands, he won. That win became his launchpad into broadcasting, voice acting, and eventually DZMM's Barkadahang Radyo-Radyo.
But the dream wasn’t as smooth as his delivery. The industry was brutal—closed doors, politics, rejection, and painful gatekeeping. He was told he wasn’t good enough. That he didn’t belong. That there was no space for a beginner like him.
“I cried in the bathroom. I was crushed. But I chose to rise. Because pain creates greatness.”
🛤️ From DFA to Legacy: Desperation, Frustration, Aspiration
Pocholo calls his early journey the DFA phase — not the Department of Foreign Affairs, but Desperation, Frustration, and Aspiration. Every closed door only made him knock louder. Every “no” pushed him to build his own “yes.”
He auditioned endlessly. Volunteered tirelessly. Until one day, the industry that once ignored him could no longer ignore his impact.
🏛️ Changing the Industry: One Voice at a Time
In 2005, Pocholo founded Creative Voices Productions, and later, the Philippine Center for Voice Acting (now Voice Acting Academy Philippines). His goal? To open the doors that were once shut on him.
“I was the outsider once. So I became the bridge for others to enter.”
Today, he has trained over 3,000 voice artists, and nearly 80% of Filipino voice talents have been touched by his programs. From dubbing anime and commercials to radio dramas and audiobooks, his influence is everywhere—even in the voices we don’t recognize, but feel.
🌍 Self-Actualization & A Higher Purpose
After achieving everything he once dreamed of, Pocholo reached what many call self-actualization. But he didn’t stop there.
“When you reach your dreams, it’s time to create new ones—not for yourself, but for others.”
That’s why he continues to mentor, speak, and lead—not for fame, but for impact. He sees the voice not just as a career tool, but as a divine gift.
🕊️ The Power of the Voice
“The voice is the most powerful sound in the world. It’s not as loud as thunder or as violent as war—but it can start revolutions… or say ‘I love you.’”
For Pocholo, the voice is sacred. It can destroy or heal. Start chaos or create peace. That’s why he teaches with heart. And that’s why he ends with this reminder:
“Our voice is a gift from God. What we do with it is our gift to God.”
The VoiceMaster searched for heroes. He found none. So he became the hero he was looking for.
And now, he trains others to do the same—not just to find their voice, but to give it meaning.
