The VoiceMaster Talks with Dr. Carl Balita on a Possible Collaboration

On October 15, 2019, Dr. Carl Balita held a live stream featuring Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales to announce an upcoming collaborative training on voice care.

The two met at Miriam College during an event for marketing and advertising students. Pocholo shared that it was an honor to meet his idol, Dr. Carl Balita, and talk with him about one of his advocacy which is to educate people on how to use their voice effectively and at the same time take good care of it.

Pocholo introduced his previous program, Voice Acting for Effective Teaching, where he focused on educating teachers on using their voice to empower, inspire, and inform students amid straining it daily. He explained that with voice acting, teachers can catch the attention of their students and enhance their skills as educators. “[With voice acting] May musicality na yung boses kasi nagkakaroon na ng tunog,” Pocholo added, to which Carl agreed saying that with voice acting it will be the teacher who will act as the best audiovisual material.

In talking about voice acting, Pocholo showed off his ensemble of voice impressions of famous celebrities, politicians, and cartoon characters. He explained that when he was young, the only entertainment available in their province was listening to the radio, and it was the radio program Gabi ng Lagim that got him hooked on voice acting. He grew up honing his talent as a voice artist by copying the voices of the characters in the radio program and even perfecting it.

The two also talked about how one’s voice is considered as a gift and a choice. “We choose the voice that comes out our mouth, kasi yung reflection ng tingin mo sa sarili mo nagrereflect din sa boses mo,” Pocholo added.

This then transitioned to the topic of a collaboration between Pocholo and Carl in conducting a training program on voice care and in using one’s voice effectively in public speaking and teaching. Dr. Carl Balita then asked the virtual audience whether they are interested in participating in the said program. Many educators and event hosts/influencers tuned in in the live stream and gave their feedback, such as Beki Mon and Tonette Magtanong.
